Iron Maiden fever

I was hurting when I went to see Queens of the Stone Age at the Webster Theatre the night before Easter in 2005, and the whole show felt like one bizarre fever dream. It was the same feeling Wednesday night when Iron Maiden opened its world tour at the Dodge Music Center in Hartford.

After a while, you're no longer watching a band play music, you're inside the music as it swirls around and pummels you, and you sort of lose track of time and space until you have become the metal. And then someone brings you a bottle of water and the feeling retreats a bit until you can go home and gulp down some cold medicine.

The band was excellent, though, playing the entirety of its new album, "A Matter of Life and Death," and then revisiting some crowd favorites at the end of its hour and 45 minute set. Eddie, the band's dessicated zombie mascot, was prominently featured, of course, both on backdrops behind the musicians and as a giant walking puppet thing with red glowing eyes during the encore.

The new album is very good, but overall it lacks the high octane and energetic tracks like "Number of the Beast" and "Run to the Hills," in favor of the more pensive, churning build up songs like "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg." I'm seeing them in a week at the Nassau Coliseum and am very dissapointed to see no "Number of the Beast" or "Run to the Hills." Granted, I don't just want to hear everything from Edward the Great, but when you're Nike Air Max Mens going to see Maiden you expect to hear the standards that made them who they are. Personally, I am most sad to see no "Quest for Fire" on the set list but, alas, life goes on.

Hey guys, I was really looking forward to the show last night in Hartford. I have become quite the fan in the past couple months through the enthusiasm and extensive record collection of a new friend. I never could have guessed that my budding interest would coincide with a new album and subsequent US Tour, the first date of which just happens to be in my backyard! Unbelievable timing! I bought tickets the day they went on sale and bought the new record the week it came out.

Well, you really let me down last night. Playing your entire new album front to back was a really strange thing to do. I understand you are excited that you scored your first top ten record in the US after 14 studio albums and thirty plus years together. I'd be excited too! But do you really think you sold all those concert tickets because people LOVE your new album?? Likewise, do you really think you scored a top ten record, because you recorded the best album of your career?? Perhaps, making the top ten is more of a reflection of the current overall slump in US record sales.

At any rate, this decision to play your entire nike free run green women new album came across as incredible arrogant and self centered. You couldn't have been thinking about your audience. If you were, you would have announced it ahead of time, so that people buying tickets knew what they were buying. Of course, if you would have done that, your tickets sales would have gone waaay down.

I don't know if you heard it, but there were audible boos coming from the crowd. This following a frenzy of excitement, where before the show people were growling and yelling "Maiden" at the top of their lungs. The level of love and excite for your band before the show was mammoth. Afterwards, however, the crowd was visibly angry. Instead of yelling "Maiden" people were yelling "worst show ever" and the discussions turned to expressing various levels of disappointment.

Its not that your new album is that bad (I actually REALLY enjoy 4 or 5 songs), it's just not THAT good. Not good enough to warrant an entire concert. Not good enough to forget the other twenty odd years worth of songs. The new album isn't even sequenced in a way to make for an optimally enjoyable live show (way to many mid tempo Air Max 2016 prog rock songs). air max 90 black and red What were you thinking? You certainly didn't make any new fans last night and I think you may have lost a few.

Bruce said last year that the American public like to be spoon fed classics and are not the most accepting of new material. This is a world tour called "A matter of life and death tour 2006". The set is always designed to the theme, and they did say on the website that they are playing the new album on this tour. I'm English, i live in NY and i'll be at the NJ show. Maiden are not going to play all my fav songs and i can't expect them to, but i'm still gonna sing my little heart out and have a great time. Get over your self indulgence and lets rock. Up the irons !

I'm really glad that I can hear the new album live should I manage the time off to go to the concert in Toronto. Personally beast run to the hills and the trooper as fine as they may be, have all been featured since there writting in just about every live offering I've gotten my greedy paws on to. North America are a tough crowd for the acceptance of the new en mass as we are accustomed to more of the old and less of the new. I'm glad they did it, This is refreshing and if a little arrogant we have to remember that this is a metal band and if they lose the swagger than they lose the potency that I've grown to respect in them.

I hope they will change the setlist until they come to Europe, they should play only 4 5 songs from the new album. Good thing they gave up "Number of the Beast", should have done the same with "2 Minutes to Midnight" and "Evel That Men Do" and replace with tracks like Infinite Dreams or something from old albums like "Peace of Mind" and "7th Son". My girlfriend will follow me to the concert in Stockholm, Sweden.

So make the most of it,stop whinning or go somewhere else.

I have very mixed feelings about last weeks Maiden show. Being a fanatic since 1984, I was both pleased and let down all at the same time. They were tight, Bruce's voice was right on and the stage show was quite cool.

I am die hard Maiden and will always be die hard but the next time they decide to play an entire new album and virtually nothing else, I wish they would advertise as such. The concert was NOT promoted as this and I can only imagine that it was done deliberately. To boost ticket sales, to get us there so they could do exactly what they wanted with no regard for their fans. NO matter new fans or long time ones.

Since they have many dates scheduled in many cities and word gets out quickly, one can only imagine what future ticket sales will be like. Perhaps Bruce and the gang will take their cues from that and decide to start thinking more about the fans that made them what they are rather than about themselves. There are two reasons why a band tours: One: because they love it and Two: to make money. Well my friends they aint gonna make any money this way!!

I can't believe this elitist criticism of the baddest Mother Fckin' metal band in the world. If you winer's wanted to hear past albums, you should have gone to past tours. didn't they just tour "The Early Years" just last summer?? This is a new album!! Time to celebrate the continued legacy of this MONSTER of a band! The Album RULES!!! as did Dance of Death!

Some of the previous comments bashed the American attitude of always wanting to hear the classics. Most of us want to just hear Maiden however some who have never seen a show cry for the classics and don't understand yet the value of new material. I agree, if you want the classics go buy Life after Death. You elitist pigs are like the bratty douche bags I grew up with. always wanting to take their ball and run home.

No real lover of music listens to 50 cent and pop tart trash. Crue sang for the girls, for blowjobs. they are not metal they are actors in a band.

What is all this horse shit written from you folks, NOT from this country?? Why in the hell would nike free run green women you presume to think you know what Americans want, think or feel? Aren't we all just people anyway, no matter where we're from? It is a disgrace to the people of this country to assume that we do NOT know what a fantastic heavy metal concert is all about. Chances are, I have probably been to more than the whole lot of you. OK, you happy now? The point that myself and many others here are laboring to get across is that this show waslacking. Lacking because if this extremely talented and kick ass band really thought about their fans, they would have played maybe half the new album and dedicated the rest of the show to all the people who made them famous in the first freakin place. Americans AND the rest of you all!!
