Ben 10: Top college players to watch in Week 2 Reply with quote
Dalton Risner Youth Jordan Hicks Jersey , Offensive Tackle, Kansas State (v. Mississippi State, Saturday, 12 EST, ESPN)Risner is a sure-fire offensive tackle at the NFL level. He looks like an excellent pro prospect. But the Big 12 often doesn’t test you much in terms of pass rush — there are so many 3-man fronts and contain-oriented pass rushes. You don’t see many of the 7-techniques or wider that the NFL will show you.So this game is a big one for Risner, who faces off against a Round 1 player in Montez Sweat this weekend. Sweat can threaten the edge, work inside counters, and has a hot motor to keep you engaged for long plays through four quarters. Risner’s mental and physical fortitude will be tested. - SolakAdam Holtorf, Interior Offensive Line, Kansas State (v. Mississippi State, Saturday, 12 EST, ESPN)And we’re back.Kansas State v. Mississippi State is the game to watch if you like trench play — over all, it should be a pretty fun one. I like what I saw from Adam Holtorf in summer evaluations, but I do have significant agility questions, especially when he’s immediately threatened off the snap. Enter Jeffery Simmons, the other strong defensive lineman for the Bulldogs, who has great short area explosiveness. They will prove an excellent test for one another. - SolakJustice Hansen, Quarterback, Arkansas State (v. Alabama, Saturday, 3:30 EST, ESPN2)Yes hello, I am writing about the *checks notes* Red Wolves quarterback here today. Welcome to Week 2 of the college football season.Justice Hansen isn’t your average Sun Belt Fun Belt player, however — he was a four-star QB recruit who initially committed to Oklahoma, but after losing the camp competition to Trevor Knight and some dude named Baker Mayfield, Hansen transferred to a community college before landing with HC Blake Anderson at Arkansas State. In their Air Raid-inspired attack, Hansen put up video game numbers en route to a 2017 Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year award. His sidearm release gets loopy and he’s highly risk-oriented, but he can sling the pill. Obviously, a ‘Bama game will be a statement game on a quarterback’s resume — if Hansen wants to drum up some draft buzz, this is the game to start it. - SolakDeAndre Baker, Cornerback, Georgia (v. South Carolina, Saturday, 3:30 EST, CBS)DeAndre Baker is the leader of the Georgia defense in his senior season. The 5’11” cornerback had an outstanding junior season and looks to continue his success into his final year with the Bulldogs. Baker will take on Deebo Samuel and the South Carolina offense, in what looks like a big test early in the season. Samuel is one of the most electric receivers in the country and Baker will be depended on to lock him down and limit the Gamecocks. - NatanDelvon Randall, Safety Color Rush Nick Foles Jersey , Temple (v. Buffalo, Saturday, 3:30 EST, ESPN)Delvon Randall has flown under the radar the last two years, but certainly not for offensive coordinators in the AAC. Randall has picked off eight passes during that span, leading Temple in interceptions both years. Randall also brings a lot of physicality to the safety position as a 6-foot, 210-pound hitter. His playmaking ability will be called on against a robust Buffalo passing game that features star receiver Anthony Johnson. Randall will need to cover, hit and set the tone for the Owls to keep them in the game and a big performance from Randall could get people taking notice of the senior ball-hawk. - NatanTariq Cole, Offensive Tackle, Rutgers (v. Ohio State, Saturday 3:30 EST, ESPN)I don’t need to convince you that facing Nick Bosa is an important resume game for an offensive tackle, right?Really, Cole will see a bevy of good pass rushers in the Big 10, and will have every opportunity to improve upon his moderate pass-blocking resume from 2017. He’s a great run-blocker with good power, but he disappoints in terms of athleticism on the edge. Improved technical understanding of how he’s being attacked would help him in this regard, and against Bosa, you must be quick of mind and aggressive in your sets to beat him early. Cole is rather unknown as it stands; I think he could be a riser, but he’ll have to survive the Bosa experience, which isn’t an easy task. - SolakTrayveon Williams, Running Back, Texas A&M (v. Clemson, Saturday, 7:00 EST, ESPN)All eyes are on Trayveon Williams after the junior ball carrier exploded for 240 yards and two touchdowns in his season debut last week. The 5’9”, 200 pound back has had flashes during his career at Texas A&M, but this year he will likely be the featured player in the offense. Williams has to face a murderer’s row of defenders on Saturday with Clemson coming to town. Clemson has a handful of future NFL players on their defensive line alone and Williams’ success will likely determine the outcome of the game, while also serving as a showcase for how he, a smaller runner, will hold up against elite defenders. - NatanJ.J. Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Stanford (v. USC, Saturday, 8:30 EST, Fox)San Diego State sold out to stop Bryce Love last week in order to beat Stanford. It would have worked if not for J.J. Arcega-Whiteside air raiding the Aztecs to the tune of six catches for 223 yards and three touchdowns. The 6’3”, 225-pound receiver is an incredibly impressive athlete who can pop the top off a defense in a cinch. This week’s game against USC will be a huge stage for Arcega-Whiteside to continue his dominance. USC will likely be focused on stopping Stanford’s running game, so Arcega-Whiteside will once again have plenty of one-on-one opportunities to make plays downfield. - NatanCameron Smith, LB http://www.authenticsphiladelphiaeagles.com/cheap-brandon-graham-jersey , USC (v. Stanford, Saturday, 8:30 EST, Fox)Cameron Smith is such a tricky eval in the year of 2018. Rewind the clock 10 years, and I think he makes a strong case as a top LB in the class — but with the added emphasis on athleticism at the linebacker position, Smith fades into the background. He’s just not a good mover. If Smith is to project as an NFL starter, he needs to show improvement as a cover man. Athletically, if he’s cut some weight, he may play quicker — which will allow him to deal with the stellar TE duo in Stanford of Colby Parkinson and Kaden Smith. Smith with also be tasked with reading and reacting to Stanford’s power running game, by taking on big offensive linemen and getting paws on Bryce Love before he breaks into the third level. On that note, I expect him to excel. - SolakN’Keal Harry, WR, Arizona State (v. Michigan State, Saturday, 10:45 EST, ESPN)After a dominant performance last week that garnered Player of the Week honors, N’Keal Harry is looking to follow up with another big game against a ranked Michigan State team. The Spartan defense will be as stingy as always, so Harry putting up big numbers would be a huge star on an already bright resume. - NatanEagles News: Chad Johnson offers to play for Philadelphia Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ... 10 wide receiver options for the Philadelphia Eagles - BGNDEVANTE PARKER - Parker was a surprise scratch for the Dolphins’ Sunday game against the Jets. The 2015 first-round pick has been dealing with a broken finger but he said he felt he was healthy enough to play. Perhaps Adam Gase has soured on Parker not unlike he did with Jay Ajayi last year. Howie Roseman should call up Mike Tannenbaum to check up on the situation. Parker, 25, has 139 career receptions for 1,908 yards (13.7 average) and eight touchdowns. It sure sounds like the Eagles are going to add a wide receiver - PhillyVoiceDespite Kenny Britt’s long NFL tenure (comparatively speaking), he is still only 29 years old. This option would of course have the least amount of sizzle, but Britt would likely come cheap, and wouldn’t cost anything in terms of draft pick compensation.Entire Offense Needs To Step Up To Get On Track - PE.comSo where do the Eagles go from here? They’re keeping their eyes open for options to add to the wide receiver group, so we’ll see if anything transpires there. The rule of thumb in this league is that you coach what you have, and right now the Eagles have a lot of players who are either young (Shelton Gibson, DeAndre Carter, Dallas Goedert, Joshua Perkins) or new to the offense (Kamar Aiken) trying to supplement the main threats who are tight end Zach Ertz and Agholor. The latter two were targeted a whopping 25 times among Foles’ 48 passing attempts on Sunday in Tampa. That’s just too much for two players and not enough moving the football around. Agholor has 16 catches in two games, but he’s averaging just 7.6 yards per reception. Explosiveness is lacking all around. How quickly can the Eagles’ Carson Wentz look like his old self? - Daily NewsTwo things about Pederson’s answers: 1) He doesn’t think carefully tiptoeing Wentz back into the fray is any kind of option, and 2) Bottom line, Pederson doesn’t really know how mobile and elusive Wentz can be, wearing a knee brace, with his knee probably still at least a couple of months from feeling the way it felt before he injured it. Nobody knows. Usually it’s a full year after surgery before everything is completely back to normal.Eagles’ uncharacteristic breakdowns allowed Buccaneers to hit big plays - NBCSPThose two long TDs equaled the total number of 75-yard touchdowns the Eagles allowed in their previous 23 games going back to late in the 2016 season. This is totally out of character. The Eagles usually get enough pressure that quarterbacks don’t have time to crank up deep balls. And they have talented albeit young corners and smart safeties. Heck, the Eagles only allowed nine touchdown passes longer than 20 yards in 19 games all last year! But this was just a combination of two plays where the Bucs executed at a high level and the Eagles didn’t. “We killed ourselves,” Darby said. “It’s nothing they did, it’s what we did to ourselves.”The Starting 11: Blake Bortles and Ryan Fitzpatrick Are 鈥?for Real? - The RingerPederson’s team has looked uninspiring over its first two games as Wentz has been sidelined and other key pieces (including Alshon Jeffery and Timmy Jernigan) have dealt with injuries. Even with Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles under center, Philly has been in a holding pattern http://www.authenticsphiladelphiaeagles.com/cheap-zach-ertz-jersey , waiting until Wentz was ready to play. Foles may not be at fault for Jalen Mills being unable to stay with DeSean Jackson or Ronald Darby falling off O.J. Howard in the open field, but it’s clear that the Eagles need a jolt, no matter where it comes from. Welcoming back the face of the franchise and going up against a young Colts defense (one that played quite well Sunday in a 21-9 win over Washington) might be the lift Pederson’s club needs. The hope is that the Eagles’ rocky start hasn’t pushed them to get Wentz on the field before he’s ready, but by all accounts, the final step was just getting the doctor’s signoff. Wentz has been practicing for much of the summer and was waiting only for the go-ahead. If he really is ready, this is welcome news for Philadelphia. With Carson Wentz playing, Eagles will protect him - San Diego Union Tribune“If he’s cleared, he’s cleared,” Pederson said. “There is no need to hold back.” Surely, the Eagles will be creative and find a way to maximize Wentz’s effectiveness. However, they can’t have it all. Although Wentz looked much improved in his pregame workout Sunday, it is medically imporssivle to be 100 percent this early. Given the increased chance of re-injury with an early return, I expect the Eagles to be smart – as they have been so far.Mychal Kendricks starts for Seahawks - PFTMychal Kendricks arrived in Seattle earlier this week. Apparently that was enough time for him to learn what he needed to learn about the Seahawks defense. Or maybe he’s just better than anybody else the Seahawks could put out there at weakside linebacker tonight. He’s certainly the most experienced of their options. Kendricks opened the game in place of K.J. Wright, who continues to rehab from arthroscopic knee surgery.Giants’ injury update: Jon Halapio’s season over with broken ankle - Big Blue ViewThe New York Giants offensive line, still trying to gel as a unit, has suffered a major loss. Center Jon Halapio, who suffered a right leg injury in Sunday night’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, is now confirmed to be out for the season. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported the news first, saying that Halapio has a broken ankle:UCLA Bruins Get Bulldogged by Fresno State, 38-14 - Bruins NationWe all thought that Chip Kelly would install an offense that had creativity and put players in the best position to excel. We thought players would tackle better and be more disciplined. We had a multitude of thoughts before the season started. What do we have now? We have nine games left in which we will be the underdog in each game except for maybe one, and it’s very possible that the Bruins could lose all of them.PFF’s Week 2 NFL Team of the Week - PFFQuarterback: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 96.3. For the second consecutive week, Fitzpatrick makes our Team of the Week, this time on the back of an incredibly solid effort against the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. He completed 27-of-33 passes for 402 yards and four touchdowns with four big-time throws to tie for the NFL lead in Week 2. He didn’t throw a turnover-worthy pass all game long and after two weeks of play, Fitzpatrick is the NFL’s highest-graded quarterback with a 98.8 overall grade.Agent’s Take: Here are eight contract-year players who can cash in with a big 2018 - CBS SportsAssuming the 2019 salary cap is in the $190 million neighborhood, a deal equivalent to Vernon’s would average slightly more than $20.75 million per year. This type of interpretation of Vernon’s contract will be particularly relevant because Vernon and Demarcus Lawrence have the same agent.QB protection penalties are way up, and the NFL has a problem - ESPNWhat, dear fan, are you more willing to accept: quarterbacks pummeled and possibly hurt on a weekly basis, or rule enforcement that protects them but at times makes a mockery of the effort? If we’ve learned anything during the first two weeks of the 2018 season, it’s that the NFL has bet on the latter -- even as that bet escalates into one of the biggest stories of the year. On multiple fronts, and with little public warning, the league has further elevated its extreme measures to protect quarterbacks. There were another six roughing the passer penalties during the first 15 games of Week 2, including a questionably interpreted but game-altering call against Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews. That brought the season total to 21, putting the league on an unprecedented pace for the season. How to fix the NFL’s confusing roughing the passer rules - SB NationThe league’s ever expanding rules for roughing the passer have now ruined two games in two weeks. It’s time to rethink them....Social Media Information:BGN Facebook Page: Click here to like our pageBGN Twitter: Follow @BleedingGreenBGN Manager: Brandon Lee Gowton: Follow @BrandonGowtonBGN Radio Twitter: Follow @BGN_Radio
