Downtown construction boom
Construction workers continue work on the new arena project downtown in this November 2014 photograph.
The development has spurred on a series of other blockbuster announcements. The City of Edmonton announced it would lease a new tower being built by the arena developers, then in August, Stantec said it was moving its staff to another new tower, which at 62 storeys, will be the city's tallest when it's finished.
In the fall, Delta Hotels revealed it would set up a four star property in the bottom half of a proposed hotel condominium skyscraper.
And that's just in the arena district, which backers predict will see $2.5 billion worth of development to become Canada's largest sports and entertainment project.
Of course, the arena deal that was the catalyst for all this work didn't come easily.
It took years of sometimes bitter talks before a financial arrangement was approved using money from the city, Katz, the province and a ticket tax.
Meanwhile, construction also began last winter on the nearby $340 million Royal Alberta Museum.
In addition, work is pandora 2016 collection well underway on other downtown structures, including numerous condo towers and Enbridge's future pandora valentine's day rings home in the Kelly Ramsey Building.
Not bad for a city centre where only one major structure, the Epcor Tower, had opened in the previous generation.
There's Pandora 2016 Charms money for a bike route along 102nd Avenue, the low floor LRT should start running in 2020 and there are hopes the Quarters will finally transform the rundown east end.
Thousands of residents are expected to move downtown, supporting new restaurants, shops and other businesses that will create a bustling street scene.
Katz, who shed his media shy image in 2014 to repeatedly trumpet arena district developments, said in August he'd long talked about transforming Edmonton's core.
He wanted to use the arena to help Edmonton reach its potential as a vibrant place to pandora 2016 collection live, work and play.
