Rawlinson, 24, had the field at her mercy as she entered the home straight in the first semi, easing up well short of the Genuine Pandora Love All Around Charm Sale UK line.
Her winning time of 53.57sec was the sixth quickest Pandora UK of her career and the second fastest since her return to the track following the birth of her son, Cornelis, eight months ago.
Leading American Tiffany Ross Williams was the slowest qualifier for the final in 54.15sec, while Fani Halkia of Greece and Tetiana Tereschuk Antipova of Ukraine the gold and bronze medal winners at the 2004 Olympic Games in Genuine Pandora Beach Ball Charm Sale UK Athens both missed out.
"I'm Genuine Pandora Love All Around Charm Sale UK very pleased with that," Rawlinson said.
"It's my second fastest time of the season so I can't be disappointed.
"I ran my own race. I was aware that I had (American) Sheena (Johnson) in the race . she went out hard and I was still aware of her at the seventh hurdle.
"That's a good start and I've got to find another half second or so in the final so we'll see how it goes."
Rawlinson, who won the 2003 world title but missed the 2005 championships due to a back injury, needs to shave 0.5sec from her time to break the long standing national record of 53.17sec set by Debbie Flintoff King in winning the gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.
